Provided strategic and technical direction for a major ERP modernisation strategy modernization unifying web services integration, EDI transformation, and SAP migration. Assessed the legacy ERP landscape, mapped core business processes, data dependencies, and decades-old integration points exposing inconsistencies and manual workarounds.
Designed a robust web services layer replacing brittle point-to-point integrations with API contracts, modular architecture, and secure, reliable cross-system communication. Overhauled the EDI ecosystem modernizing mappings and implementing standardized transaction sets across web transactions (850, 855, 810, 820), inventory management (846, 852, 830), and shipping operations (856, 940, 945, 947). Automated validation workflow automation patterns improved data accuracy and reduced processing delays. SAP migration required orchestrated master data harmonization, interface redesign, and end-to-end testing strategy pyramid.
The EDI ecosystem was 15 years old and nobody fully understood it. We found transaction mappings that contradicted each other, trading partner configurations nobody remembered setting up, and manual override scripts that had become load-bearing cloud infrastructure design. The audit process took 8 weeks and uncovered 23 undocumented integrations that were mission-critical. If we had migrated without this discovery phase, we would have broken trading partner relationships worth $40M+ in annual business.
The SAP master data harmonization was the most complex technical challenge. Twenty years of data across three legacy systems meant customer records existed in multiple places with different identifiers, slightly different names, and conflicting address formats. We built a golden record algorithm using probabilistic matching (name similarity + postal code + phone number) to identify duplicates and merge records. The algorithm processed 2.3 million customer records and identified 340,000 duplicates. Manual review of the highest-confidence merges took 3 weeks; the rest ran automatically.
Change management for the 200+ people whose daily workflow automation patterns changed was as important as the technical work. Finance staff accustomed to exporting SAP data to Excel for reporting needed training on native SAP reports. Warehouse staff using paper-based exception handling needed digital replacements. We ran change management in parallel with technical implementation: process documentation 3 months before go-live, training 6 weeks before, on-site support during the first 2 weeks post-launch. Adoption rates reached 95% within 30 days - far above average for ERP implementations.
