Requirement traceability matrix (RTM): ``` Requirement | Test Cases | Coverage ---------------------|--------------------|--------- FR-005: User login | LOGIN-001 to -006 | 100% FR-009: Coupon codes | CART-004, CHK-006 | 100% FR-012: Payments | CHK-003 to -005 | 100% FR-018: Email notif | ORDER-007 | 100% NFR-003: Page load | PERF-001 to -003 | Partial

Pro Tips

  • 1Test case IDs should be stable don't renumber when adding new cases. Prefix by area (LOGIN-001, CART-001) so they're self-documenting.
  • 2Write expected results as observable outcomes, not internal states. 'User sees success toast' not 'successFlag = true'.
  • 3Separate test design from test execution. Cases written during development reveal missing requirements before coding begins.
  • 4Reuse and parameterize test cases where possible a login test template can cover 10 user types just by varying the test data.
