Project Overview

Digital leader guiding a team of senior designers, content strategists, and user researchers in delivering more than a dozen site launches. Sole focus on eCommerce systems integration into digital and marketing agency services. Led compelling product design vision, strategy, and road-map for eCommerce websites. Conceptualized creative ideas using sketches, user flows, site maps, wire-frames, sample pages, and clickable prototypes.

Lorex's primary challenge was converting a retail-channel brand into a direct-to-consumer powerhouse. When I joined, lorex.com was primarily a product catalogue with no real commerce capability customers found products then went to Best Buy or Amazon to purchase. The brief was to make lorex.com a significant revenue channel.

User research revealed that security camera shoppers are highly anxious they want certainty they're buying the right system for their home. Our research identified three primary fears: buying a system that doesn't work with their existing setup, buying something they can't install themselves, and being left without support after purchase. Every design decision was filtered through these three anxieties.

The System Builder was the most innovative feature we created. Inspired by PC configuration tools, it guided customers through recorder selection, camera count, camera type, and accessories. Behind the scenes it ran a compatibility engine ensuring selected components worked together. Return rates dropped 40% for customers who used the builder versus those who self-assembled their cart. The tool generated $12M in its first year our highest-converting feature.
